About this thread insert
This is a thread insert in 303 Stainless Steel, supplied plain, with an M2 thread. Every dimension is stated against the standard named above; where a tolerance class matters to your design, ask us and we will confirm it in writing before you order.
A thread insert repairs a stripped thread or reinforces a thread in a softer parent material, so a steel fastener can be used again and again in aluminium, plastic or castings. Used on castings, moulds, aluminium housings and any assembly that is dismantled often enough for the original thread to wear out.
M2 is a metric thread with an 2 mm nominal diameter and a coarse pitch of 0.4 mm (ISO 261). A standard hex head takes a 4 mm spanner across the flats.
303 is a free-machining austenitic stainless with added sulphur. It machines beautifully and is used for turned parts, but the sulphur slightly reduces corrosion resistance versus 304.
