About this washer
This is a washer in 201 Stainless Steel, supplied plain. Every dimension is stated against the standard named above; where a tolerance class matters to your design, ask us and we will confirm it in writing before you order.
A washer spreads the clamp load of the fastener over a wider area of the joint face and keeps the turning nut or head from scoring the part underneath. Fitted under bolts, screws and nuts on soft or painted surfaces, slotted holes, and any joint that is taken apart often enough for the face to matter.
Plain (self-colour) means no coating. On 304 and 316 stainless that is fine — the alloy passivates on its own. On carbon steel it will rust, so choose a coated option instead.
201 is a lower-nickel austenitic stainless with added manganese. It is cheaper than 304 and adequate for dry indoor work, but it pits faster in humid or coastal air — not the grade for outdoor or marine use.
